C.H.U.D. II – BUD THE CHUD REVIEWED
“C.H.U.D. II – Bud the Chud” is an amazing sequel that barely has anything to do with the original. Plus, it has that catchy “Bud the CHUD” song. This film started life as a Return of the Living Dead sequel, before it found its way over to the C.H.U.D. franchise. From there, a gallery of B-movie actors and campy humor took it to that next level. While the first film has its merits, I prefer this sequel due to its willingness to have fun. Everything from Gerrit Graham’s performance as the lead to the zombie dog made me enjoy this rollicking flesh eating romp. If you still prefer the original, it’s being released today by Arrow US.
But, please give this film a chance. When Brian Robbins and pals steal Bud from the government, everything that follows tells you what kind of movie this is going to be. Zombies attack KFC stand-ins to find more people to eat. Animals get attacked and become zombies. Robert Vaughn eventually becomes a sentient military zombie. This isn’t “The Walking Dead”, people. For 85 minutes, let a film take you away to a time when flesh-eating wasn’t that serious. A time when even mass audiences could appreciate the insane and slightly inane nature of zombie attacks.
