BYE BYE GERMANY REVIEWED
“Bye Bye Germany” isn’t what I expected. It’s a German film about Holocaust survivors trying to recruit a large group to buy their way out of Germany. All around them is misery, plus many have lost friends and loved ones in the camps. They want to go to America, yet someone is hiding a secret. That secret being our lead survivor is creating a sales team to take advantage of the Allied Forces that control their freedom.
It’s very Hogan’s Heroes in a way, but even that show glossed over its vicious Concentration Camp surroundings. Older folks might say it was a Stalag, but look hard at that world and then this one. It’s people getting by on their charm, while scores are dying around them. The result is pretty brutal, but it makes me people smile in its awfulness. I could see the Coen Brothers trying to remake it.
