BORN TO RACE: FAST TRACK

BORNTORACEbrboxart

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Brett Davern and Beau Mirchoff of MTV’s ‘Awkward’ star as Danny and Jake, small-town street-racing rivals with fast cars and quick tempers. But when Danny scores a scholarship to a top racing school, he’ll find himself in fierce competition with an arrogant Italian driver (Diogo Morgado of Son of God and ‘The Bible’), in a risky relationship with a new classmate (Tiffany Dupont of ‘Greek’), and competing on the same team as his old nemesis Jake. The stakes are high. The track is hot. And survival of the fastest is the only rule that matters. Corbin Bernsen (‘Psych,’ ‘L.A. Law’), Grant Show (‘Devious Maids,’ ‘Melrose Place’) and Sharon Lawrence (‘Rizzoli & Isles’) co-star in this action-packed second film in the Born to Race franchise.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Born to Race: Fast Track” is a look at small-town street racers who let their rivalry get the best of them. That changes when one of the racers wins a scholarship to a top racing school. I didn’t know those existed, but it allows new elements to come into the story. What’s weird is that at points the film seemed to have the most racially diverse case this side of an “Iron Eagle” sequel. But, I still couldn’t keep with it.

Car racing movies should be exciting. But, so many turn into car porn for the shop class kids that don’t read so well. If there’s any consolation to that maladity, let it be that a bevy of luscious images await the viewers. For a film that I didn’t know existed prior to reviewing, it looks amazing. I guess that tech advances are helping to make any movie look like a million bucks.

The Blu-Ray comes with a behind the scenes featurette as the sole special feature. The A/V Quality is sharp for a low budget production. The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 is crisp on dialogue and racing action. Plus, the 1080p transfer sports no digital noise. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
