BLOOD RAGE

BLOOD RAGE REVIEWED

“Blood Rage” was shelved for four years before being dumped into theaters in a recut version. While the R-rated gimp cut wasn’t that bad, it still didn’t capture the magic of “Blood Rage”. While Thanksgiving rarely gets the horror movies that it deserves, there’s something to the slow burn of the material. Whether it’s dwelling on Louise Lasser drunk dialing, the constant younger supporting cast or Ted Raimi stealing the show…the Holiday is almost inconsequential. More than anything, it feels like a “Silent Night, Deadly Night” clone at times.

The end of the Slasher Golden Age was full of weird films like this. Too graphic for the Reagan era and never charming enough for the heyday of the 1970s. We marvel at the stars that try to make the material work, but we all stay for the killer FX of Ed French. The makeup is stunning, the tension is superb, but nothing can explain away Louise Lasser in this film. Hopefully, this hasn’t sold out yet as this is one of the best Arrow USA releases ever.
