BLOOD IS BLOOD REVIEWED
“Blood is Blood” took me extra time to cover. Why? Well, I had to make a mob hierarchy chart to figure out what was going on. The pseudo and real family of the main character lacked any major characteristics. There was a push for gore, but in the way you get with VOD horror. It’s enough to grab the attention, but it’s not worth any of the effort.
Fiona Dourif is incredible in the lead, but even she couldn’t save the movie. The film is well shot, it’s just that the story doesn’t work. Yeah, I get that people had the same issues with “31” earlier last month. But, there’s something that splits the difference. Visual aesthetic successfully aping better movies vs. story coherence. While one is a crutch, the other is a necessity to keep viewers hooked into a film.
I’ve watched and forgave far more. But, it’s been awhile since I had such a difficult time making it through an indie horror film. Take that for what you will and give it a shot this Halloween season. If you don’t, it’s not going to bother me.
