BASKET CASE 3 REVIEWED
“Basket Case 3” is where Henenlotter must’ve tried to get every creature design onscreen. The freaks and related creatures are impressive. Hell, I found Belial to be more impressive in this outing. It’s just a shame that the movie suffered from horror sequelitis. What’s this? Well, it’s when a horror franchise automatically assumes that you buy into its world and throws everything at you. Rhyme or reason doesn’t matter, as this is a movie about freaks battling it out for baby freaks.
Duane is still the unsung hero of these movies, as he’s the only thing resembling a straight man. He desperately wants to help his brother get his kids back and he puts up with the other deformed freaks to make it happen. It’s just that it feels like there were only 30 minutes of a movie and an hour of a gore FX reel. I know that Henenlotter and his approach has a ton of fans. Hell, I consider myself to be a huge fan of his older stuff. The later work just feels like it exists to exist. It feels weird to say that about horror, but here we are. 13 year old me would be pissed at myself.
