“Barney Miller” entered into the 1980s, as they became a homicide only squad. For a major metro area, this is common practice. However, it’s incredibly rare for any of the non top 25 markets to attempt in America. The passive nature at which the crew shrugs it off has always bothered me. But, I guess that’s just because of familiarity with the standard operating procedures.

The seventh season doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to do that. Time was much more forgiving to major network shows back in a time when they didn’t have FOX or basic cable to fight. Competition is a good thing, but I think there is something missing about not letting a show like this exist. Hell, a show about aging male cops trying to form relationships would be high risk now. That is unless you make it unintentionally racist ala “Blue Bloods”.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp. However, the transfer won’t impress anybody who didn’t watch the show during its original run. Still, it sounds and looks impressive. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
