The hit adaptation of Carley Fortune’s BookTok-beloved romance will expand into her novel One Golden Summer, with showrunner Amy B. Harris and Fortune both returning.
The BookTok-to-screen pipeline just notched another win. Prime Video has handed Every Year After, the television series based on Carley Fortune’s Barry’s Bay universe, a second-season pickup. After a first season that adapted Fortune’s bestselling Every Summer After, the new season will widen the world by drawing on her follow-up novel One Golden Summer, while continuing to follow the fan-favorite characters established in season one. It is a swift vote of confidence for a series that arrived with a devoted built-in audience.
A Lakeside Romance With a Built-In Fandom
For the uninitiated, Every Year After is a romantic, nostalgic story of first love set in the fictional lakeside town of Barry’s Bay. The eight-episode first season, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival before dropping all at once on Prime Video on June 10, 2026, follows Percy Fraser, played by Sadie Soverall of Saltburn, an obituary writer who returns to Barry’s Bay after a decade away when a beloved maternal figure passes. There she must finally face Sam Florek, played by Matt Cornett of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, the great love of her life. Told across six summers in the past and one fateful week in the present, it is exactly the kind of swooning, second-chance romance that has powered the genre’s recent boom.
That boom is no accident. Every Summer After spent 22 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, has sold more than 1.7 million copies, and became a genuine BookTok phenomenon, with the book’s hashtag racking up over 81.4 million views on TikTok. One Golden Summer, the basis for season two, spent 20 weeks on the bestseller list and has sold nearly a million copies of its own. In other words, Prime Video is not guessing about demand here, it is following the readers.
What Season Two Has in Store
The expansion is a smart one. One Golden Summer is set in the same Barry’s Bay universe and centers on Charlie Florek, Sam’s older brother, played by Michael Bradway, which lets the series broaden its scope without abandoning the characters and relationships fans already love. The renewal keeps the creative team intact, with Amy B. Harris continuing as showrunner and executive producer and Carley Fortune continuing as an executive producer, alongside Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, John Stephens, and Grace Gilroy. The returning ensemble includes Sadie Soverall, Matt Cornett, Michael Bradway, Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen, and Joseph Chiu.
