A Silent Voice is pretty heavy. People have disabilities, suicidal thoughts drive the plot and it plays like Degrassi Goes East. People learn to like each other, but it’s handled in a realistic way. The students featured in the film don’t just stop being douchebags. They have to learn through trial and error what it means to be better people.

Anime gets weird coverage on this site. I blame that mainly on the fact that I grew up outside of its rise in prominence in Western culture. I got the early tastes of it, but it never had that overwhelming saturation that people 5-10 years after me. That being said, I recommend this one. Give it a shot.

A Silent Voice makes its Blu-ray debut on April 2nd, 2019
