BENOIT JACQUOT COLLECTION, THE

Benoit Jacquot makes cinema.

Does this count as modern French cinema?

“The Benoit Jacquot Collection” is an obvious labor of love for the team at the Cohen Collection. This is the same label that released “3 Hearts” to Blu-Ray and now we’re getting three deep cuts from the 1990s. All I have to say is that I’m still not seeing the greater promise of Jacquot. He’s not a bad director, but after watching “The Disenchanted”, “A Single Girl” and “Keep It Quiet” back-to-back…I’m just not feeling it. What gives?

Outside of the third film, the movies tend to center around women in their late teens who don’t know what to do with their lives. These aren’t the worrying sort, as they’ve decided their actions to a point. It’s not that they are impacted by others, so much as they’re waiting for everyone else to finish so they can live their lives. The films are so passive that they actually make for bad cinema, but excellent text. If that doesn’t make sense to you, then give them a viewing.

The Blu-Ray comes with commentary, trailers and interviews as the special features. I found via Cohen a snippet of one of the interviews. You can see that in the new video section inside of this review. The A/V Quality is strong with a supportive 1080p transfer and the usual PCM 2.0 audio track. I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
