WHAT WE THOUGHT

“The Larry Sanders Show” came out in the haze that followed “Kids in the Hall” disappearing from HBO. I had like the older Garry Shandling Show that aired on Showtime. But, was I ever going to like this? This show was so straight-laced in comparison, but you had Rip Torn. I’ve always been a Rip Torn fan and I appreciate the guy’s work in a way that people geek out over Danny Trejo. But, what about the DVD on-hand today?

Garry Shandling is always a strong lead comedian. But, there’s something about pointed satire that seems to elude him. The discs are loaded to the brim with the first two seasons spread across two discs. As such, the picture quality dips up and down at times. It’s nothing major, but it will piss off the video snobs. I seem to remember that Shout put out a better collection a few years back. If possible, I’d hunt down for better image quality. If you’re looking for a bargain, then this is the better deal.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is on par with past standard definition compilations. The Dolby track is a pretty flat stereo mix. Nothing ever hits the back channels. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
