THE PLOT THUS FAR
When a zombie invasion hits Dublin, Billy becomes infected while attempting to save a woman on the street. His family decides to care for him despite his undead state, attracting the attention of the violent anti-zombie mobs that are roaming the streets. Even as Billy bites and claws at their flesh, they hope to prove that blood runs thicker than water – or else die trying.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“About a Zombie” is a mockumentary about a family trying to deal with their zombie son. The family restrains the kid and then washes him outside with a hose. It’s pretty terrible, but the neighbors don’t really complain. Everything seems nice in this undead run wild world, but who really cares? The tea is still on and everybody is working to keep the family together. Shame about those zombie killing mobs roaming the streets!
Ireland has a peculiar taste in their brand of horror. Well, I guess it’s part of the larger UK experience. Whether it’s “Shaun of the Dead” or this film, the British and Irish both want to control and contain the problem. They’re too polite to have a full-on zombie apocalypse, but they will contain and try to fix those that have issues. There is a great academic paper to be written about that, but I’m not going to have time to do it here. Still, the incessant need to keep everyone together and to treat an undead cannibal like a family secret is insane! I prefer my zombies destroying the Pennsylvania countryside and attacking malls!
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is to be expected for standard definition. However, you get a Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 track for the audio. The transfer is pretty standard and flat. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
