Grindhouse Releasing Elevates Its Game with MVD Partnership, Starting with William Shatner’s “Impulse”

Big news for cult classic film enthusiasts! Grindhouse Releasing, the legendary independent film label, is embarking on an exciting new journey. They have inked a deal with MVD Entertainment for distributing their acclaimed home video releases, and the collaboration kicks off on March 12 with the worldwide release of the psycho thriller Impulse, featuring none other than William Shatner.

William Shatner in a Riveting Performance in “Impulse”

Set to be a standout in Shatner’s career, Impulse sees him in a gripping role as Matt Stone – a manipulative con artist and gigolo with a dark side. His portrayal of a homicidal maniac who targets rich widows is described as the most unhinged performance of his career. The film also stars Ruth Roman (known for “The Baby” and Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train”), Kim Nicholas, Jenifer Bishop, and the iconic James Bond villain Harold “Oddjob” Sakata from “Goldfinger”.

This is not just any release; the two-disc Blu-ray set of Impulse is a collector’s dream. It boasts a stunning new 4K transfer, meticulously restored from the original 35mm elements. But that’s not all – the set is loaded with over 15 hours of bonus content. These extras are produced with the cooperation of the film’s legendary director, William Grefé, known for “Stanley”, “Death Curse of Tartu”, and “Mako: The Jaws of Death”.

Prepare to dive deep into Shatner’s world with “Kingdom of the Shatner”, a 2022 live festival appearance where he reminisces about his experiences in ‘70s cult classics and his recent journey to space. Director, screenwriter, and film historian C. Courtney Joyner provides an insightful look at Shatner’s career during the ’70s. Other highlights include on-camera interviews with Grefé, producer/makeup artist Doug Hobart, and art director Roger Carlton Sherman. The set is enriched with audio commentary by Grefé, an alternate French soundtrack, still galleries, trailers, and a treasure trove of rarities from Grefé’s archives, including two complete feature films.

Rounding out this ultimate package is a full-color glossy illustrated booklet with liner notes from underground filmmaker Jacques Boyreau. Fans will be thrilled with the beautifully embossed slipcover and a collectible postcard featuring an original oil portrait of William Shatner by renowned painter Dave LeBow.
