ZODIAC KILLER, THE

THE ZODIAC KILLER REVIEWED

“The Zodiac Killer” is what happens when a fast food magnate makes a true crime movie. Tom Hanson’s attempt to unmask The Zodiac Killer arrived a full six months before WB got “Dirty Harry” to theaters. The difference was that Hanson had to fill in a ton of gaps about how the Zodiac operated. From there, it’s tales of worshipping Satan in his basement and their plans to use the film to push Zodiac into coming forward. That’s right, the movie purposefully antagonizes The Zodiac Killer as a way to get himself to unmask back in 1971. The initial San Francisco theaters were set up as stings to bust the Zodiac when he went to watch the movie.

It never came to fruition. However, we have a collection of 70s true crime movies where a mentally unwell man has theories. If you enjoy The Zodiac Killer, AFGA also has his later work on Son of Sam in the bonus features. Plus, I just discovered that Hanson also directed “A Ton of Grass Goes to Pot”. This is the kind of movie that happens when the Zeitgeist meets the ambition of psychotic film making. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite Blu-rays of 2017. This is a must-buy.
