XAVIER RENEGADE ANGEL: SEASONS 1 AND 2

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Xavier is a faun-like wanderer/seeker who is traveling across the land to find out the truth about his mysterious and uncertain origin. Facing rednecks, inflicting righteousness and preaching religiously about the ‘strong, silent types’ and moralism, this hero has his work cut out for him.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

Just describing the titular character will be enough to blow most people’s minds. He’s humanoid, but he’s covered in brown fur, has a beak as well as a mouth, six nipples, a snake where his left hand should be, one blue eye and one brown eye, and a third eye of unspecified color where his genitalia should be. Also, his knees bend at the joints backwards, and he rarely wears anything but a loin cloth and tennis shoes. He’s kind of a wandering philosopher, a la Caine in “Kung Fu,” which is a rather philosophical career for someone who was raised by an alcoholic slut of a mother who tried to abort him but, when she found out it was too late to do so, instead just had the doctor torture him while he was still in the womb. And don’t even get us started on his now-deceased father, who may or may not have met his demise at Xavier’s own hand.

This is an intentionally poorly animated, comedically fast-paced glimpse into the twisted, surreal world of Xavier, an aesthetically (not to mention morally) objectionable wanderer (and wonderer), with delusions of philosophical grandeur. As Xavier lands himself in situations born almost completely out of his twisted incompetence and inability to reason, he attempts to further understand himself and nearly always fails.

The DVD comes with all twenty episodes from the first two seasons. Plus, you get a ton of commentaries and the added bonus of Xavier Chat. After hearing all of this extra information, I’m more confused about the show than ever. Throw on about average broadcast A/V Quality for a fun animated stoner show. I’d recommend it to all Adult Swim fans.
