THE PLOT THUS FAR

A massage therapist is unable to do her job when stricken with a mysterious and sudden aversion to bodily contact. Meanwhile, her uptight brother’s floundering dental practice receives new life when clients seek out his healing touch.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

I really like what Lynn Shelton has managed to accomplish with her body of work. Not all of her movies and TV work are for everyone. But, she has a unique voice that espouses her point of view without being too aggressive. Plus, she works with the Mumblecore actors that I prefer. She’s not the Duplass Brothers, but frankly…who are?

The only thing that really irks me about the film is how easily drug use leaked into the film. Just because you lose your magic touch, you’re automatically going to turn to narcotics. I get the whole web of life and being connected to people, but that’s a bit much. Is there not any other way to show a person sliding down the spiral? Cinematic shorthand can be a bitch sometimes.

The Blu-Ray comes with a featurette and extended scenes. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp for this quirky dramedy. The DTS-HD 5.1 HD-MA track seems a little too robust at times. Still, the 1080p transfer keeps a thin shimmer throughout the presentation. Still, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
