TOMB RAIDER: THE CRADLE OF LIFE (4K ULTRA HD)

THE CRADLE OF LIFE REVIEWED

“Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” happened because people rolled the dice on the first movie. But, that’s the thing about star vehicles. If you don’t correct what didn’t work in the first movie, it doesn’t auto-correct in the sequel. Gerard Butler and Til Schweiger make early American cinema bows in this sequel, but they are in service to Jolie and not the film. Famed action director Jan de Bont is deployed to make the set pieces pop. But, even that is a 50/50 affair.

What the film succeeds in doing is playing dirty than the first affair. Characters betray each other and the international adventure gets popped up a notch. Plus, you get to see African Sasquatches being deployed to protect an ancient treasure trove. The rest of the film feels like it came from a bad Assassin’s Creed game, but it doesn’t matter. The Cradle of Life fails because it tried hard and missed the target. As opposed to the first film, it tried hard with less. While it’s a lesser movie, it does have more replay value.
