TENTACLES/REPTILICUS: DOUBLE FEATURE

“Tentacles” is amazing schlock. Directed by the guy who produced and co-wrote The Visitor, we have an all-star cast made up of actors that seemed to just want a trip to Italy. More than anything, I recommend pairing both films up on Blu-Ray for a schlocky double feature. What can I say about “Tentacles”? It was a foreign attempt to out gore and out gross “Jaws”. While it was one of the better lifts, it’s not an amazing film.

“Reptilicus” was the first effort by Denmark to get into the Monster Attack genre. The Danes never quite got Kaiju, but they sure knew how to work that Corman aesthetic. The monster is dumb, but Sidney Pink worked every angle of the film. What kills me is that this new transfer makes some of the effects look that much worse. Especially the early tissue sample of what would become Reptilicus.

The Blu-Ray comes with trailers for both films as the special features. The A/V Quality is astonishing, as Reptilicus is sporting a brand new HD master. The DTS-HD master audio tracks are strong for the eras in which the films were created. I love it when studios don’t overthink sound mixes. In the end, it’s worth a purchase.
