TAI CHI: DISCOVER THE ANCIENT ART

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Internationally renowned Tai Chi Master Jian Liu Jun shares his deep understanding of the principles of Tai Chi Chuan (literally, “supreme ultimate fist”). This famous martial art has been practiced for centuries, both for self-defense and its legendary physical and mental health benefits.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Tai Chi: Discover the Ancient Art” is good to learn the basics of Tai Chi. It’s a relaxing technique that will help to destress a lot of readers. However, is it the first thing you try to adapt? If there’s an interest, I can see biting the bullet and trying it out. However, it takes a lot to get to the point. Also, you’ve got to factor in that Tai Chi isn’t a practice that is learned overnight.

If I was a seasoned Tai Chi pro, this set would annoy me. It’s strictly for beginners and there is nothing here that is going to  make you work for it. That being said, there’s plenty of material here to keep you moving. It’s not that amazing of a documentary/instructional approach. But, it is what it is.

The DVD comes with really terrible A/V Quality. I usually give smaller companies a pass on questionable transfers, but I’ve screwed up DVD-Rs that ended up looking better than this. The Dolby track is workable, but not impressive. I know that I’m sounding negative, but there’s not much to build from here. I’d recommend a rental to curious fans.
