THE PLOT THUS FAR
The universe is in big trouble if the supervillain Thanos is able to collect all the gems necessary to complete the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet! Experience the action and laughs with this second volume of The Super Hero Squad Show’s hilariously wild second season!
WHAT WE THOUGHT
With Galactus defeated and Dr. Doom moping behind bars, Super Hero City is finally safe — that is, until Thanos goes in search of the powerful Infinity Gauntlet! Although they are without their comrade-in-laughter, Silver Surfer, the Super Hero Squad — Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine and Falcon — must once again come together to take on any villain that threatens the peace and safety of the Marvel universe . . . no matter where it might take them!
“The Superhero Squad Show” focuses on a small group of superheroes led by Iron Man and their battles against super-villains led by Dr. Doom. The groups interact with other superheroes and super-villains so you never know who you’re going to meet in each episode. There’s more to it, but I don’t want to say too much. If you want to watch, watch it with an open mind, not with a mindset to critique or compare it with other superhero cartoons. Look at it as a satire and something to laugh at after a hard day at work.
The second season sports some Cosmic Marvel action, as the show movies away from the more traditional villains. Don’t worry, comic nerd parents. Nobody is going to have to see Captain Marvel get cancer or Thanos killing all the heroes. It’s more goofy quest action, as the team searches for the Infinity Sword and related Starlin trinkets. I guess they thought it would be too much to make kids think that a Gauntlet is that powerful.
The DVD comes with no special features. The Dolby 2.0 Surround mix sounds underwhelming when compared to the HD broadcast. However, I also noticed a lot of color and edge enhancement issues in the transfer. I’m not sure if it’s episode to bitrate factoring in here or just poor mastering. Hopefully, this can be fixed at a later date. It’s a rental for the kiddies.
