SHOCKING DARK

SHOCKING DARK REVIEWED

“Shocking Dark” was Bruno Mattei’s answer to the question of could you combine Aliens and The Terminator? The answer is POORLY. But, that’s the Mattei aesthetic. Tony Lombardo leads off a cast of Americans and Italians doing their best to make this unofficial sequel work. What’s terrible about it is that the film doesn’t even try to hide its lifted roots. Sure, it’s set in Venice. But, let’s look at it. A strong Weaver stand-in and a little girl flee from a cyborg and killer alien monsters under the streets of Venice.

The alien part is the only shaky part of that, but this material is naked in its lifts. The makeup while not quite on par with similar fare, finds a gross way to emulate the Terminator make-up. Check out the special features to see how this film was packaged around the world. Honestly, given how Carolco and Tri-Star were into the T2 build, I’m shocked that the film wasn’t blanked from global memory. But, I’m not sure who’s left to be mad at this film.

Oh well, check out the oddity!
