SAVE THE BRONX ZOO! Budget Cuts Threaten Funding

The good news is that the New York State Legislature on February 3, 2009 rejected Governor Paterson’s proposal to disproportionately cut the Zoos, Botanical Gardens and Aquariums (ZBGA) budget line by 55 percent for Fiscal Year 2009. This positive result was achieved in part by our collective efforts having generated more than 75,000 messages to Albany.

The bad news is that next year’s funding is still threatened.  The Governor’s proposal to eliminate all state funding for Fiscal Year 2010 is devastating.  We hope that Albany will use a scalpel, and not an ax, to make targeted reductions that will allow the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium to weather this financial storm.  We have made a difference in the debate thus far and we will need your continued outreach efforts to successfully save ZBGA for 2010.

Time is of the essence.  The budget must be passed by April 1, 2009.  We still need your help to send a message to Albany that these devastating cuts to the ZBGA are unacceptable. Click on the link below and make a difference.  Or you can call Governor Paterson’s office immediately at (518) 474-8390 and ask him to save the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium funding.
