“S.O.B.” was an early Orion oddity that served as Blake Edwards’ follow-up to “10”. When Edwards decided to make a film that satirized the Hollywood system that carried him through the 1960s and 1970s, nobody knew what to make of it. Honestly, it felt like Edwards and his wife’s (Julie Andrews) chance to redefine their image. Many people will remember where they were the first time they saw Mary Poppins’ tits. They might not remember it was the film, but the forgettable nature of that stunt kinda confirms what this film accomplished.

Hollywood insider movies don’t really have a punch anymore. But, the chance to lampoon self-serving studios and ideological fallacies are quite fun. The supporting cast is rather amazing, as it sports everyone from Robert Preston to William Holden and even a young Rosanna Arquette. If you know musical timelines, Rosanna Arquette was more than likely working on this movie when she was rockin’ her way to Toto making her famous.

The joke of the film works well, as long as you can hang with the movie. Running just a smidge over 2 hours might have been a bridge too far for most. However, I recommend that you stick it out.
