THE PLOT THUS FAR

After witnessing a friend’s gruesome suicide, things haven’t been the same for Cole. He is being tormented by what appear to be hallucinations.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

Everyman Cole Hindin has been in a downward spiral since he witnessed a bloody murder-suicide. With his wife about to leave him, the self-medicating Cole faces a daunting task at his cleaning job that makes him doubt what little sanity he has left. Arrogant Henry Sharpe hires Cole to clean his mansion overnight, but a mysterious red stain revives Cole’s terrifying hallucinations and makes him ask where Henry’s wife is.

This whole story is rather trite. But, you’ve got excellent acting and a solid ending that feels so out-of-place in a film that fiddles about. It’s nice to see that Oz Perkins is shaping up into one hell of an actor. It’s just that the guy needs better material to show his range. Hell, his dad only did horror after spending several years on stage and in serious dramas.

The DVD comes with a deleted scenes, alternate opening, gag reel and trailer gallery. The A/V Quality is pretty standard for a regular DVD. It’s just that for a movie that requires so many dark scenes, there’s a lot of digital noise. Horror movies tend to look bad when you have an iffy transfer, so I don’t get why companies don’t invest more in creating a solid master transfer. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
