Half of the super couple known as “Speidi,” Heidi Montag (“The Hills”), is the latest addition to the growing number of celebrities scheduled to guest host on “The View,” sitting in for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who is on maternity leave until mid-October. Montag is scheduled for OCT. 1, and this will be her first time co-hosting the Emmy(r) award-winning talk show. Her three prior appearances on “The View” (6/15/09, 6/26/08 and 3/13/08) have been alongside her husband, Spencer Pratt, her co-star on “The Hills.” See video from Heidi’s last appearance on “The View” at: http://theview.tv/videos/Heidi_Montag.
During their last appearance Whoopi Goldberg told the couple, “You better get yourselves together or you’re going to be in the street. You’re going to have to take responsibility. You’re too old now. Last year it was cute. Now you’re adults.” Pratt told the co-hosts that “Speidi” is tied with President Barack Obama as the most popular celebrity. “If we lived in the White House, I would say we would be No. 1,” Pratt said. Barbara Walters, who told the couple they were “famous simply for being famous,” asked what the future holds, leaving Pratt to respond that he “lives in the moment.” When Joy Behar questioned Montag about comparing herself to Mother Teresa when it was rumored she would be posing for Playboy, she said, “I’m more a modern version (of Mother Teresa)” and went on to call the magazine reputable.
“The View” made headlines on June 18, 2009 when Lauren Conrad appeared as a guest to discuss her departure from “The Hills” and the “apology” from Pratt. Co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked if she felt the apology was sincere. Conrad told the hosts: “To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t on the other line of that call. That was filmed and I wasn’t on the other end. So, no, I didn’t get an apology. He’s lying.”
During Hasselbeck’s maternity leave (expected to conclude mid-October), a variety of guest co-hosts, including Meghan McCain, Kate Gosselin, La Toya Jackson, Alexandra Wentworth, Mika Brzezinski (“Morning Joe”) and E.D. Hill, have been filling in for the 32-year-old mother of three. Upcoming hosts include “Little House on the Prairie: The Musical” star Melissa Gilbert (Sept. 28), Grammy(r) Award-winning singer/songwriter Gloria Estefan (Sept. 29), “The Hills” star Heidi Montag (Oct. 1), former “View” co-host Lisa Ling (Oct. 5-6), “Ugly Betty” star Ana Ortiz (Oct. 8), “The Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco (10/13) and “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi (Oct. 15).
