THE PLOT THUS FAR
This heartwarming film tells the story of a young country singer who loses her way and her angelic voice. The original film was released nearly 20 years ago and country legend George Strait reprises his role in this film with new country star Katrina Elam. This inspirational ballad plays throughout the film and in the climax when “Bobbie” recovers her singing voice.
1. Dream Big
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Dream Big” is a strong country diddy from Katrina Elam and performed by Steve Dorff in the film. That’s right, the Steve Dorff. Opening with trickling melodic piano, the ballad later features string accompaniment and soaring vocals by up-and-comer Katrina Elam. Pure Country 2? is the followup to the hit 1992 George Strait vehicle Pure Country. The new film is more a spinoff than a sequel. Strait makes a few brief appearances, but this time playing himself rather than his Pure Country character Dusty Chandler. Elam is pretty and talented, but she’s too inexperienced to carry a movie her first time out. Strait has just a few minutes of screen time in what is really an extended cameo essentially playing himself. The director’s brother also puts in a cameo for people that want to go Superman spotting.
