THE PLOT THUS FAR

Journalist/filmmaker Angela Sun travels on a personal journey of discovery to uncover the mysterious phenomenon of The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Plastic Paradise” is another environmental expose on how plastics never decompose and they’re all going to kill us. That opening shot of the bird getting vivisected to show all of the plastic in its guts was amazing. That being said, I can’t remember if there was any narration over it. Sorry, but I’m blood and guts kind of guy and I missed the point of being educated. I know that BPA is bad, but no has accurately explained it to me. The stuff with the blood tests really went nowhere and it didn’t related to my daily life.

The fact that there is that much trash floating in the Pacific Ocean should be unsettling to everyone. People should take care of the environment and quit living like pigs on the one hospitable planet in the Universe. That being said, the battle to be globally aware needs to start with finding ways to make being clean and green easier for the daily person. Too many environmentalists want to get on soapboxes and decry the common man. Well, they’re going to ignore you and keep tossing soda can rings out the car window to catch fish. While I admire the intentions of this documentary, the execution was very lacking.

I watched the movie on an HD stream and I have to say that I enjoyed it. While I don’t believe a disc based tech would’ve improved the transfer, I would’ve liked to have known the specs in which the documentary was shot. That being said, I’m just being overtly technical. Whatever happened to just watching a documentary to learn something? Ultimately, what I learned about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch horrified me.
