It was a season to be savored for all of Packers Nation. Over these four games, Green Bay captured the imagination of an entire nation and their story became etched into the fabric of their incredible NFL legacy. Now, those games are yours to own on DVD with Road to XLV.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
Why wasn’t this a Blu-Ray release? I mean, every single one of these games had a national broadcasted game in HD. Why is it that last year’s romp with the Saints can get major attention, but a switch in production companies results in this? Did Vivendi not think that people wanted to the big game in the best possible quality? Hell, there were four games presented in this set and not a one is given anything resembling a decent transfer.
The Packers were an amazing story last year as the Underdogs who came back from the Wild Card round to take it all. Hell, they beat the Bears in possibly the best game that rivalry has ever seen. But, what sucks so bad about all of this is that we’re not getting a permanent momento of these wins in a format that would at least match our HD broadcast memories. When your DVR can beat the hell out of a home video release, that’s just sad.
The DVD comes with all four post-season games leading to the Packers’ first Super Bowl win since the 1990s. There are no special features, but at least you don’t have to watch the commercials. The A/V Quality is pretty strong, but the transfers are still full of digital noise. The back channel audio is lossy, but that’s to be expected with a release like this. I’d recommend a rental.
