ONLY THE BRAVE REVIEWED
“Only the Brave” creates a stunning look at major fire rescue. If you come from a region with tremendous wildfires, these guys will seem like heroes. Honestly, I found director Joseph Kosinski killed it with the stunning visuals. I’d love to see what this film looks like HD or 4K, but I’m going to wait on that one. Especially, because the story is about as thin as a recap on Deadliest Catch.
The Granite Mountain Hotshots feel like they would better be served by a documentary rather than a feature film. I feel like the era of staging true story hero events as feature films has come and gone. There was a moment in history where having an extended Movietone News was thrilling. But, the 24 Hour News Cycle has killed that joy in me. If you enjoy this sort of thing, then this will be right up your alley.
I’m really starting to enjoy the lead turns that Miles Teller is getting in recent years. He’s a charming lead in the face of pressing adversity. Oh well, it’s winter…give it a stream.
