ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK, THE

THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK REVIEWED

“The Only Living Boy in New York” feels like every single whiny Coastal millennial bitching about their lives. But, it’s a fantasy of how these entitled little shits view their existence. Our lead is a young Liberal Arts styled kid who can’t handle how his dad treats his mom. When he finds out that his dad is cheating, he decides to confront the mistress. Now, said mistress (Kate Beckinsale) forces the entitled little shit to put his life into perspective.

This means he retreats to the advice of a wise old professional, then gathers material for what will become a book. All the while, he stalks his dad and the new lady like an Arcade Fire listening Harriet the Spy. The cast for this film is amazing and I’ve liked the past work of the film’s director. It’s just that this movie insists upon itself in a way that I found incredibly off-putting. But, back to why I didn’t like it.

Even for a pathetic fantasy, the film restricts itself to the social boundaries that the SJW community stuffs upon itself. The lead can never self-actualize, but he exists as a prolonged whiner over things that don’t involved him. It’s insane and not worth watching.
