NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION REVIEWED

“Night of the Living Dead” has been the Grail of many home video enthusiasts. For now, the Happinet release out of Japan seems to be the preferred Blu release. Right now, I’m just enjoying having a Region A release via Mill Creek. The transfer is better than my old stand-by Elite Entertainment DVD. However, I wish that the original audio elements could be truly cleaned up. Pops and whistles are fun for a Grindhouse feel, but I want a 2017 caliber presentation.

Due to the fact that the movie is in the Public Domain, that’s a lot of wasted breath. Criterion keeps dipping a toe in and out of this pool, but I’m getting tired of waiting on them. For now, I’ll take a cheap HD version that looks reasonably good. If that wasn’t enough, then I would’ve already picked up the Japanese disc. I’m a little weird about picking up Japanese Blus, as my last two have arrived sporting minor amounts of radiation. It’s totes neat to have your Oppo give your Geiger counter a slight reading.

Bah! It’s a classic, check it out.
