MY FIRST COLLECTION VOL. 2 FEATURING SPOON

THE PLOT THUS FAR

13 Adorable Stories for Young Children in a 3-DVD Collection. Volume 2 of this pre- and young readers collection is sure to inspire and foster early literacy.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

Spoon, a usually happy utensil, has a sudden lack of confidence in his abilities. Fork, Knife, and Chopsticks have the popular vote. But do they? There’s also some wonderful side stories about babies and animals. It’s nothing that’ll tug at the mind, but it’s material to grow alongside your kids.

The four stories included in this set represent a wide range of interests in kid literature. Whether it’s dealing with new babies, helpful utensils or playful animals, adventure is to be had all around. Cooperation and music appreciation are the main skills to be learned. I’d recommend checking out the Mia Farrow narration on Crazy Cakes to hear some excellent old-school animated dialogue.

The DVD comes with interviews, a documentary about the music of Spoon and a read-along. The A/V Quality is on par with the standard definition transfers for the past Scholastic releases. The documentary has to be the strongest supplement that I’ve seen Scholastic put together. It was so thorough, that it could’ve almost been a standalone release. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase for parents.
