MONSTER TRUCKS

MONSTER TRUCKS REVIEWED

“Monster Trucks” is one of those movies that I kept watching to the point that I forgot to review it on time. Sorry about that. What I couldn’t help but marvel at with this film was how out of time it felt. This could’ve been a kid friendly creature feature back in the 1980s, yet it forces its way into the modern era. Rob Lowe picks up on this vibe and milks every scene as the villain that wants his monster back. Plus, what was up with the product placement for Big Red? Yeah, it’s Texas. But, I thought that Texans forsook the one true soda in favor of Dr. Pepper.

Thomas Lennon, Danny Glover and Jane Levy all turn in amazing supporting roles. Still, I don’t get why Paramount let this movie sit on the shelf for over a year. Wedge is a new live-action director, but it’s not like the man hasn’t made animation work for years. Honestly, I appreciate directors that understand how to make family movies that appeal to all family members. It’s a lost art of filmmakers knowing their audience and still meeting artistic demands. Amazing work all around and it’s a film that I want to see more readers watching this Easter weekend.
