MECANIX

MECANIX REVIEWED

“Mecanix” is an insanely intriguing visual feast. However, the main plot feels like it belongs to a short film. A team of bizarre creatures fears the embryo of everything that grows in the last man alive. The creatures make a scientist vivisect the few remaining humans in order to find the embryo. The story takes a back seat, as your eye will instantly be drawn to the bizarre puppet like creatures that scurry back and forth.

The creature design is second-to-none, but I feel that the creative talent over-extended the premise. Not everything needs to be feature length and this film makes that case around the 45 minute mark. Still, there’s plenty of material to wow future special effects designers. Were the creatures puppets or complex marionettes? I can’t quite tell, but every inch of the screen pops with this bizarre treat.
