WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Mac & Devin” is a stoner movie. It’s also an urban youth vehicle featuring two popular rappers that targets people looking for a quick home video rental. I can almost smell Jack Donaghy getting a boner about all of this vertical integration. Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa team up to introduce inner city youth to the joys of pot. Andy Milonakis shows up to remind America that he’s still alive. Everyone else floats in and out of this poorly shot movie.
The film is terrible, but it doesn’t take too long to realize that. Our CG joint guide Slow Burn introduces us to the terrible reality. He looks like something that crept out of the ass of Taiwanese animation and then proceeded to do the worst stoner comedy this side of Tommy Chong’s balls. The plot is barely there, but it involves weed. I just wanted to make sure that you all knew about the pot jokes, so the waves of CG smoke didn’t catch you offguard. The Blu-Ray comes with an audio commentary as its sole special feature. The 1080p transfer is soft and shows the diminished production value. The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track really pumps up all the channels, but there’s not a lot to show off outside of some music. In the end, I’d recommend a rental for all stoners. They’re dumb and they usually laugh at anything.
