LIGHTHOUSE, THE

THE LIGHTHOUSE REVIEWED

“The Lighthouse” plays upon something that might work better in a book than film. Cerebral dread doesn’t exactly engage the visual need that many have with film. Watching two men debate theological concerns and personal drives doesn’t tug at the brain. What it does do is create atmosphere. That’s great, but it doesn’t exactly tell the middle of the road people why they should be scared. So, what’s a person to do?

As this film releases in the mid-summer, take a step back and enjoy the film for what it is. We’re entering into an era where very few of us are getting to see movies like this. Intelligent horror never catches on, unless it has a big marketing push. But, even that requires some hook for an audience. Think past the hooks, people. Look for the films that have something to say.
