KISS THE WATER

KISSTHEWATERDVDBOX

FROM THE BACK OF THE BOX:

In a small cottage on the northern coast of Scotland, Megan Boyd twirled tiny bits of feather and fur, silver and gold into fishing flies that were at once works of art, magical – and absolutely lethal. Wherever men and women cast their lines for the mighty Atlantic salmon, her name is whispered in mythic reverence, and stories about her surface and swirl like fairy tales.

FROM THE BACK OF MY BRAIN:

“Kiss the Water” is more of a love letter to fly fishing. Sure, we listen to Megan Boyd discuss the beauty of the Highlands and their natural color. That being said, so much of the material comes down to how awesome it is to cosplay “A River Runs Through It”. I’m getting a little tired of documentaries that were seemingly made by friends of the subject who want to turn their feature films into biopics of modern day saints. However, I do like the attention it brought to fly-fishing.

Megan Boyd is interesting, but I’m not sure if she was worth a full feature. Most of the true mystery belongs to the salmon and not to the people baiting them. The dance we see on the watery waves vs. the technique on display is beautiful. But, I take that most readers and viewers won’t see what I mean unless they’re purposefully trying to channel their inner Ron Swanson. That being said, natural documentaries rarely get a chance to explain the mystery behind their sporty beauty.

The DVD comes with no substantial special features. The Dolby track is pretty clean, but it lacks major definition. The same can be said for the standard definition transfer. That being said, it looks like most documentaries. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
