THE PLOT THUS FAR
A reality-based look at the vapid lives of several New Jersey 20-somethings and their respective friends and/or hook-ups.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
Jersey Shore resembles the network’s pioneering series “The Real World,” which is now almost twenty years old—a human chemistry experiment with explosions guaranteed. In both shows, a group of carefully, cannily chosen people with big personalities—or personality disorders—are thrown together to live for a period of time with few obligations and all kinds of ways to create a lifetime of regrets, not least for viewers.
The fourth season is the gang’s much lauded trip to Italy. Playing like a Special-Ed version of Assassin’s Creed, the fourth season shows that Ugly Americans are eternal. There’s nothing I can say about this season that Beavis and Butthead haven’t spent their last season saying. But, I will state this. Everytime these kids open their mouths, we learn what the last decade of American culture has brought about. A generation of ignorance and vanity unseen since the Disco era.
The DVD comes with deleted scenes and featurettes. Plus, you get the bonus reunion special. The Dolby 2.0 surround track and rather flat standard definition transfer is on par with the broadcast. However, I still wonder why MTV won’t push for a Blu-Ray release when they show the program in HD. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase for the fans.
