THE PLOT THUS FAR
Jeff Dunham is back in his much-anticipated fourth concert event, with all-new material and unparalleled comedy that surpasses his record-breaking specials Arguing with Myself, Spark of Insanity, and A Very Special Christmas Special. All the favorites are here, plus two never-before-seen characters certain to unleash their own unique havoc on stage.
Dunham is an international phenomenon with sold out stadium concerts, one-half billion YouTube views, and television shows that remain among the highest rated in Comedy Central history. Controlled Chaos is guaranteed to deliver an unequaled number of laughs per minute – whether you’re a Dunham Maniac or seeing him and his partners for the very first time.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
Ventriloquist and comic Jeff Dunham takes to the stage to provide fresh comedic material with his classic puppets Walter, Peanut, Jose Jalapeño and Achmed, as well as with two never-before-seen characters with their own unique quirks.
“Controlled Chaos” marks a weird point in Dunham’s career. The novelty of the puppet act is starting to wane, as Dunham is coming off a divorce and the loss of his weekly show. Achmed, Peanut and Walter are back and the material is thinning out. Achmed has now turned into a tired old man’s attempt at mixing racially charged humor with balls out racism.
During the rest of the show there were another few remarks which seemed pretty iffy and nasty. I’d imagine that they were probably directed at his ex-wife, which really had no place in this kind of a stand-up comedy show. But, that’s what this stuff has become. You start out with a few well-timed jokes, then he brings out the dead terrorist and kid. The material starts edgy for Middle America and then slips into jokes that your grandparents tell.
The Blu-Ray comes with outtakes and featurettes. The A/V Quality is far better than any Dunham special so far. The uncompressed audio shows a dynamic range that would only compare to a live performance. But, if you’re not a fan of Dunham…this won’t win you over. The fans will want to buy it.
