INSIGHT (2011)

THE PLOT THUS FAR

While attempting to save the life of a fatally stabbed young woman, ER nurse Kaitlyn is accidentally electrocuted by a backfiring defibrillator. Upon awakening, she begins to experience memories that are not hers, but rather those of the now deceased victim. With her sanity in question and nowhere to turn, Kaitlyn must weave through the womans past and piece together her memories before the killer strikes again.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

After receiving a shock from a defibrillator being used on a stabbing victim, a nurse finds herself thrust into the middle of a murder mystery. She soon begins visualizing the slain victim’s memories — which could solve the gory crime. As Nurse Kaitlyn goes about trying to make sense of it all, she runs across the detective investigating the case. Between the two of them, they attempt to discern what really happened to the girl who died in the E.R.

We struggle as the main character does to try and figure out whether Allison’s murder was a random killing or something more. Along the way we are introduced to a skeptical detective, Kaitlyn’s sick mother, a sleazy psychiatrist, and Allison’s ex-boyfriend, all of these characters add to the mystery. None of them confirm for the audience on which end of the spectrum the story will end. Whether or not this was just a random killing and Kaitlyn is just hallucinating these memories, or there’s something more to this murder, and Kaitlyn is the only one who can figure it out.

The DVD comes with a behind-the-scenes featurette and trailer. The A/V Quality is a mixed bag that falls somewhere between muddy and terrible. The Dolby track is supportive, but I often couldn’t make out background action. But, what do you expect for a dimestore budget and no leading stars? I’d recommend a rental for the curious.
