THE PLOT THUS FAR
WHAT WE THOUGHT
The Uninvited seems to be a story about Lee (Moreau), a girl who has been afflicted with Spatial Phobia ever since her parents died many years ago. Similar to Agoraphobia, Lee’s condition leaves her quite unable to leave the house as wide open spaces disorient and terrify her. Lee needs the constant reassurance of solid objects and four walls enclosing her. Lee is probably one of the very few people who could adapt rather well to being buried alive.
The angle that involves Lee's husband trying to make a documentary about Satanists seems to be there just to be move the plot forward. After all, how many horror movies work when you just focus on a woman crippled by the death of her parents? You need some ghosts, some ghouls or other crap. By the time that I realized who Colin Hay was, I couldn't give a damn if he came from a land down under. The horror action was slight and it took too long to get to the money shots.
The DVD comes with a commentary from the director. Other than that, there's no special features. The A/V Quality is pretty strong for an international horror film. Sure, some people have made comparisons to Rosemary's Baby. But, I find the overstretching of Satanists and Cultists to feel a little out of place. The current generation of filmmakers have ruined vampires forever, can we just leave Satan alone? Oh well, it's a rental for horror fans.
