THE PLOT THUS FAR
WHAT WE THOUGHT
The UFC 112 match was pretty standard. If you didn't call the bullshit calls behind Edgar vs. Penn, then you haven't been watching the UFC for long. There are no Rocky Balboas in the Octagon. There's just people who enter like gladiators of lore. All of them waiting to kick a skull in. But, it's fun to watch. What's not to love about that? Edgar's shot at B.J. Penn felt more like a compulsory reward for his successful record than the result of demand from viewers hungry for this match-up. There are few fighters out there like Edgar; he is as completely detached from the typical hype-building melodrama as he is committed to earning a victory.
Veach took a hard hit from Kelly’s elbow in the first round causing a good amount of bleeding. Kelly remained in control during most of the fight. Although this was an early fight, it was a memorable one. No surprise, Kelly won this one in the second via submission. Paul Kelly is a contender to be closely watched. The DaMarques Johnson vs. Brad Blackburn bout brought the first and only TKO of the UFC 112 came from Johnson when he put down Blackburn in the third round. Blackburn appeared to be dominating this fight but Johnson made a comeback to win the match. The final kick to the body was all Johnson needed and Blackburn was out. Gracie and Maia also fought, but there's nothing that interesting about their bouts. It's pretty straightforward.
The DVD comes with a breakdown of UFC 112 featurette. There's also segments about the weigh-ins and the online featurette. If that wasn't enough, there's a rather lengthy behind-the-scenes that shows what goes into a production. The A/V Quality is pretty impressive, but it lacks the punch that the UFC Blu-Ray offerings have. Still, I'd recommend a rental to fans.
