THE PLOT THUS FAR
An ex-Special Forces soldier gets thrown back to medieval times to fulfill an ancient prophecy and ends up finding redemption for his own battlefield experiences.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
Dolph Lundgren plays Granger, a marshal arts instructor and ex-military man who is transported back in time to fulfill a prophecy about defeating evil. If the accent and bad acting of Lochlyn Munro as King/Raven doesn’t make you laugh, stay tuned as the acting gets worse. The king’s sorceress who transport Dolph dies, but her spirit sticks around a few scenes to help Dolph. Michaela Mann plays a bad actress who Dolph is too tired to have sex with. The dude from Freddy vs. Jason shows up to play the King. For some reason, I keep thinking he’s John Ritter’s kid.
The film is a joke, but it’s Uwe Boll. He knows that he’s a joke and he wants you to celebrate the tax shelters he builds. Boll’s practically the Jimmy Carter of building penny shacks for people who really couldn’t find work in legitimate venues. Here’s a funny story about my experience with Boll. I got the offer at a long dead site to head up to Canada for the boxing debacle. Being a noted packrat and Batcave enthusiast, I’ve kept the notice about Boll’s boxing hi-jinks as a visual reminder of how to handle his films. Ignore it and it’ll go away. It’s just that he won’t go away due to all of these dumb kids that thinks he’s funny.
The Blu-Ray comes with featurettes and commentaries. The A/V Quality is really strong for a Uwe Boll film with quite possibly the cleanest DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track that has ever been cut for one of his movies. The 1080p transfer suffers from a low bitrate and short space on the disc. I didn’t even know that they were still making single layer Blu-Ray releases anymore. Increase the disc space, people! In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
