ICE QUAKE

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Beneath the Alaskan landscape, the melting permafrost is about to drastically alter the tranquil scenery. As the permafrost thaws, underground rivers of volatile liquid Methane are created, causing a succession of violent and destructive earthquakes. It’s a race against time to stop the deadly rivers before they lead to a catastrophic explosion that threatens the planet.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

In Alaska, a series of earthquakes leaves a family of hikers trapped among avalanches, geysers and huge fissures in the ice. As his clan fights to survive, military geologist Michael Webster realizes that an even greater catastrophe may be looming.

The scenery is quite striking, the story was interesting in concept and to start with, Brendan Fehr is charming and does show at least a bit of charisma and the female didn’t grate on me or strike me as too bland. However, Ice Quake isn’t particularly good either. The acting, excepting the leads, is nothing to rave about, and I also couldn’t connect to most of the characters, so much so towards the end I honestly didn’t really care about whether they lived or died.

The Blu-Ray comes with a featurette about the production. But, you get a really amazing Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track that feels out of place for a TV movie. The 1080p transfer is decent, but there’s not a lot of amazing material in it. Still, it’s one of the more impressive SyFy discs that I’ve seen. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
