GONE FISHIN’

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Two fishing fanatics get in trouble when their fishing boat gets stolen while on a trip.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

Gus and Joe are two average guys who want to get away and have a simple, relaxing vacation at the Everglades. They get way more than they ask for after having their car stolen at a restaurant. They realize the man who stole their car is a crook and a killer so Gus and Joe pair up with two girls looking for the man, for a little while, then go off on their own getting into their own trouble. They embark in every which way to try and stop the crook, but they just dig themselves deeper in a hole.

The film is pretty forgettable, but it builds upon what used to power matinee cinema in the 1980s and even the 1990s. You could get away with making pedestrian movies that wanted to do nothing but entertain. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track made a lot of the mayhem come to life in a way that I don’t remember hearing in theaters.

The Blu-Ray comes with a trailer as its sole special feature. The 1080p feature is good enough for an HD bow, but don’t expect anything that’s terribly clean. Mill Creek has priced the release right and I’d like to see more Blu-Ray companies get behind older titles in this matter. I’d rather have it in HD, then to not have a release at all. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
