GOLD

GOLD REVIEWED

“Gold” is a film that completely flew under the radar and out of theaters faster than you could blink. Matthew McConaughey channels his inner Jared Leto by trying to transform himself into an even more unlikable figure. Cut to Gold price manipulation, abuse of native people and a double cross staged like a film student trying to mimic later De Palma and you’ve got a fine mess to watch. While I don’t hate the film, this is the kind of feature that became the clutch material for 1980s premium cable. It’s not well made enough for Awards and it’s not bad enough to be schlock. Just enjoy the shimmering distraction, as you await better things to happen.
