GARFIELD SHOW, THE: PRIVATE-EYE VENTURES

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Follow the clues and get ready for fun-filled adventures with The Garfield Show: Private Eye Ventures. You’ll be on the case with Jon, Odie and your favorite orange feline as he meanders from one caper to the next, investigating talking lasagna, under-cover kitties, time travel and the most important mystery of all: what time is dinner?

WHAT WE THOUGHT

This animated series finds lazy, lasagna-loving fat cat Garfield up to his usual antics: snarking at his geeky owner Jon Arbuckle, tormenting Jon’s dimwitted dog Opie and otherwise living life on his own feline terms. “Private-Eye Ventures” is the third compilation disc released in conjunction with this series bowing on Home Video. Five or six episodes have been carefully stitched together pertaining to an investigative theme.

Garfield doesn’t resemble Garfield from either the original show or the strips. There’s no sarcasm, no confidence, no wit, no humor. What few jokes there are fall flat. The only reason Odie sounds right is because they got the same actor to voice him. Jon, instead of being an awkward, moronic sort of man, is a flailing pushover and frankly, boring. Where’s his anger and impatience with Garfield’s antics?

The DVD comes with  a collection of bonus shorts. The A/V Quality is pretty strong for a cartoon shot in standard definition, but it lacks any real definition. Honestly, it on par with the last couple of releases. If your kids like them, then they can swing this set. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
