THE PLOT THUS FAR
Will showcase all of the drama and excitement from the individual and team competitions for both men and women. Individual all-around gold medalists Kohei Uchimura of Japan and Gabby Douglas of the USA will be featured along with Team USA capturing the gold medal in the women’s team competition.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
The Olympics rocked this year. But, I enjoy any Olympics where America gets to beat up on Third World Countries in coordinated outfits. We should trade all bombs for floor shows and forcing host nations to build expensive housing. Plus, this disc doesn’t make you look at Missy Franklin’s horse mouth. She would be pretty cute if she didn’t look like Julia Roberts died in her mouth.
But, this was the year of McKayla Maroney. I know that we’re supposed to care about Gabby Douglas’s adversity or Jordyn Wieber doing something. But, this was the year where America got to learn that McKayla don’t give a shit. I love having angry girls in gymnastics. Growing up these were the kind of girls I used to see heading to gym practice or doing their usual schtick. It’s nice to see the Olympics finally represent my damaged memories of years past.
The DVD comes with a featurette about both US teams. The A/V Quality is pretty strong with a clean standard definition transfer. The Dolby 2.0 track sports a strong surround mix that’s almost lost on a standard definition presentation. Still, it’s a great highlight reel. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
