The “2009 American Music Awards” is asking the public to cast their votes for this year’s
T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award, the only award which will determine the fans’ top favorite new artist. This is also the only award on the AMAs where fans can text in their votes and continue to vote during the show. The T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award will be revealed during the live telecast of the special, airing SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.
For the first time this year, fans will be able to determine who should make up the final four breakthrough artist nominees for the T-Mobile Award for each of the following genres: Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop and Soul/R&B. Fans can vote from among two names in each category to determine the one artist that will move on to be included as the final nominee from that category. Voting for the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B nominees will be open this week. Nominees and voting instructions for Country and Rap/Hip-Hop breakthrough artists will be announced next Monday, October 19. Go to abc.com for additional voting details.
T-Mobile USA customers can send a text message using their phones by sending the letter corresponding to their favorite artist to short code “AMA” (262). Standard text messaging charges apply. In addition, votes for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award can also be cast via the internet at ama.abc.com. Corresponding letters to text for each artist are as follows:
