WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Family Guy” has a hit a wall hard. Somewhere between “The Road to the North Pole” and the latest forced attempts to make us care about Bonnie Swanson, I was starting to hope that “Ted” would take off and become a monster hit. I don’t totally want Seth McFarlane off television. However, he’s a guy that best functions as an executive producer. “The Cleveland Show” and “American Dad” are actually pretty good sans his direct hand.

The push to use volumes instead of complete seasons still feels like a money grab. Plus, it only serves to confuse people about which season the show is really broadcasting. After checking, I found out that the show has now started its 10th season. That  being said, the seasons continue to follow a pattern of misunderstanding, kid-centric, side character centric, attempted adaptation, extended episode and then lackluster finale. Sure, they tried to spice it up with the Star Wars adaptations, but those entries crapped out.

The DVD comes with a ton of commentaries, even fewer deleted scenes, featurettes and animatics. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp with a robust standard definition transfer and Dolby 5.1 track. However, the show has made the full jump to HD. Why can’t we get a Blu-Ray release in this day and age? In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
